Valerie grew up in Wenatchee, WA and graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Political Science. After residing in Seattle for a few years, she thought a year or two hiatus from the gray skies might be nice. She moved to California where she met Ned, her husband of twenty-two years. The one to two years became twenty-three. During that time, she had a son, Sam, a daughter, Hallie, and received a teaching certificate from Dominican University followed by a single subject credential in Physical Education K-12. She taught for the same school district in Kentfield, CA for sixteen years, teaching kindergarten, fifth grade and finally PE, grades fifth – eighth. Fifteen of those twenty-three years, the Fox Family spent two weeks of every summer in the Valley with Valerie’s sister and her family. They attended every Hikin’ Buddies Wednesday during their vacation and adopted their first dog, Joe from the shelter in 2006. Upon losing Joe in 2017, summer in the Valley was not the same without a dog. At the tail end of the next summer’s trip, they adopted Marty. With her connection to Mountain Humane and the Northwest, Valerie knew that she would make her way back to the Valley as a permanent resident, Ned to follow soon. Now living in Hailey with pup Marty and cat, Norm, working for Mountain Humane is a dream come true!
