Community Paws

One of Mountain Humane's many programs, Community Paws, serves pet owners on federal assistance or in need of financial support. Qualifying participants are presented with a myriad of pet support services that include veterinary care, behavior and training support, pet food distribution, transportation to and from services, and surrender prevention resources. Community Paws services are provided at no-cost to pet owners facing systemic barriers, financial limitations, and geographic constraints.

Pets For Life (PFL)

PFL builds humane communities using innovative strategies and fresh approaches designed to extend the reach of animal care services, resources, and information to underserved areas. The program addresses the critical need for accessible, affordable pet care by empowering the people who care for them.

In 2015, Mountain Humane became the first rural Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) PFL model, and has been in partnership with Humane World for Animals (formerly HSUS) ever since. PFL broadens our reach to Fairfield, Richfield, Dietrich, and Shoshone, by providing essential services such as pet food assistance, spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and includes transportation to and from these services. Contact Pita Vega in our Community Outreach Department at 208-788-4351.

Pet Food Pantry

Paws for Hunger is Mountain Humane's pet food pantry. If you or if someone you know needs pet food assistance, don't hesitate to get in touch with our Outreach Department at 208-806-0748 or email intake@mountainhumane.org.

Pet Retention/ Surrender Prevention

In order to avoid surrender, Mountain Humane offers support and counseling to pet parents who are struggling to house or provide the necessary care for their animals. We assist by providing food, behavior counseling, or medical care. We can also help you rehome your pet on your own (Home to Home) so that the pet never has to stay in the shelter. Please get in touch with our intake desk at 208-788-4351 ext. 301 or                                                        email intake@mountainhumane.org.

Safety Net Housing

Mountain Humane offers short-term housing due to hospitalization or other illness, incarceration, and family emergencies. Please get in touch with our intake desk at 208-788-4351 ext. 301 or email intake@mountainhumane.org.
